Description

The "STEM Alliance - Dell PolicyHack™ Competition" called for teachers in Europe to submit STEM education challenges that they face on a local/regional level in their education practices and share recommendations on how ICT(Information and Communication Technologies) can help solve these.

Entries were submitted within four ICT for STEM Education Challenge Themes:

  1. Learning environment/content I
  2. Learning environment/content II
  3. Skills
  4. Life-long learning

Out of all submissions in the competition, four teachers are invited to the STEM Alliance - Dell PolicyHack™ on Education Challenges taking place on 23-26 November 2020. At this hackathon, the finalists will have the chance to discuss online and refine their Statement of Purpose with representatives of Ministries of Education, industry partners, policy makers and other education stakeholders.

After some in-depth brainstorming, development and finalisation sessions with experts in the field, the four teachers will pitch their ideas to a panel of expert judges during the STEM Alliance - Dell PolicyHack™ Finale.

You can watch it online, get inspired by the finalists and vote for your favourite idea and pitch! The jury will decide on the final winner of the hackathon.

The Jurors

The jurors of the competition will evaluate teachers' presentations according to a catalogue of criteria (see "Criteria for Evaluation"), ask clarifying questions and choose the winner of the hackathon. The jurors were invited on the basis of their expertise in the field of educational policy and their involvement in the process of change in European education and culture.

Marc Durando

Executive Director - European Schoolnet

Marc has over 20 years of experience in the field of education and training, both at European and national level. He specialises in skills and competences in the field of education and training area comprising higher education management, assessment of projects, programmes and initiatives, adult education and lifelong learning, development of e-learning, ICT innovation in secondary schools, image and attractivity of vocational education and training, collaboration between education and industry, promoting science and technology with young people through education.

Vladimir Garkov

European Commission – DG EAC – Directorate General for Education and Culture

Vladimir has a 17-year-long experience as a university educator teaching science courses for non-majors as well as general, organic and biochemistry for science majors. In 2008 he joined the European Commission as a management officer of the scientific committees advising the Commission on legislative proposals which have public-health and environmental impact. After he moved to the Directorate General for Education and Culture, his efforts are focused on educational policy development, on bringing together policy outputs from cooperation on literacy, mathematics and science education in a single package of guidance to EU Member States.
