Computational Thinking with Python in Math(s) – June 10

Explore & Code

Challenge students to solve and explore problems by coding and executing logical algorithms, helping them to understand mathematical concepts which are often the fundaments of our surrounding digital world. Based on specific examples we will show how mathematics and Python coding can be complementary and how computational thinking fits in the math curriculum.

Physical Computing with Python in the classroom – June 17

Designing & Coding

With Python coding in combination with a microcontroller, you can easily bring the basics of physical computing into the classroom and let students interact with the real world. Physical computing motivates students to explore and to get a notion of scientific concepts as light, sound, heat, … Students will be able to design feedback and control systems, to get data out an experiment, to analyze the data and to decide on the appropriate actions to be taken. One of the examples which will be demonstrated is a Pet Car Alarm.

Koen is responsible for teachers' training and educational content at Texas Instruments for The Netherlands and Flanders. He has been connected to the Math department of the Hasselt University and author of activities and books about the value to technology in Learning and Teaching Mathematics.

Bert Wikkerink,
Member of T3 Netherlands

Bert was a math teacher in secondary education for many years and is member of T3 Netherlands. He is an experienced user of TI technology in the classroom and currently he develops Python coding content and activities for math education.

 

 

Cathy Baars


Cathy Baars,
Member of T3 Netherlands

Cathy is a physics teacher and member of T3 Netherlands. In 2013 and 2021 she was second in the Physics teacher of the year election because of her innovative and creative teaching. She provided T3 professional development around the world and she recently joined U-Talent of the Utrecht University to organize activities for teaching and learning Math, Physics and Computer Science.
