Opening Schools to STEM Careers MOOC for Heads of Schools and Career Counsellors
STEM Alliance is co-organising a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), titled 'Opening Schools to STEM careers' MOOC for Heads of Schools and Career Counsellors'.
The new course aims at informing, training and empowering Heads of School and Career Counsellors in successfully equipping and adapting schools with tools for introducing students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers from an early age.
This course is an opportunity for those who want to understand why STEM is critical for students' future welfare and success and get a better picture of the current state of play of industries and companies, through online lessons and information about career guidance and development. It is also great for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and is completely free of charge!
Starting on 25 September 2017, the MOOC is expected to last for the duration of 8.5 weeks. It will include a total of 7 modules (one module per week) and an extra grace week at the end of the course, while the workload is estimated as of 2-3 hours/week.
Participants will be able to finish it in minimum of 4 weeks, maximum 8 weeks. It is estimated that participants need around 20 hours to complete the course successfully.
The MOOC will give heads of schools and career counsellors the chance to know members of the STEM Alliance closely and appreciate different types of career counselling approaches at school level, while learning how to build a STEM career counselling vision and an action plan for schools (including leadership perspective aspects).
The material provided will focus on attracting young people to choose STEM careers and prepare their schools and students to give guidance about the possibilities that a career in STEM has to offer.
This course is an initiative of the STEM Alliance, in collaboration with SYSTEMIC - funded by Erasmus+ - and Scientix - funded by Horizon 2020.
