PARALLEL SESSION 1: CONTEXTUALISATION OF STEM EDUCATION IN EUROPE

LOCATION: ROOM EUROPE 1, LEVEL 4

This session will engage key decision-makers from the industry and practitioners to learn about the latest development in European STEM education initiatives run by companies and, share how to further develop and innovate similar pilot projects in classrooms integrated in existing initiatives such as STEM Alliance.

Questions to be addressed in this session:

  • How can we make STEM teaching and learning more adequate, relevant, enjoyable and bring collaboration, real-life role models and technology into the classroom, with support from industry?
  • How can we have an active impact on societal change and the fast evolving needs of STEM new talents?
  • How can we mainstream industry-education collaboration to integrate career talks from STEM professionals at national education level and in Corporate Social Responsibilities programmes of companies?

PARALLEL SESSION 2: EXPLORING FUTURE SCENARIOS FOR STEM SKILLS

LOCATION: ROOM EUROPE 2, LEVEL 4

In this session, policy-makers and key decision-makers from industry will present effective examples of collaboration between government and industry both at national and European level. In addition, they will address how to anticipate future skills gaps within the European Union and make it easier for companies to attract young STEM graduates. The session will contribute to the formulation of recommendations for government willing to build collaboration with the industry with a long-lasting effect on STEM education and work sectors related to STEM.

Questions to be addressed in this session:

  • How can we bring together national working practices and communication between various sectors of the government and industrial sectors to the next level in order to ensure properly trained STEM teachers and increase students' interests in STEM careers?
  • What are the synergies between government and industry that can be used to establish long-term cooperation for a STEM education curriculum in line with 21st century skills, the current challenges of society and the job market?
  • How can we strengthen government - industry collaboration to address the drop of interest for STEM subjects in schools and beyond, promote STEM careers and to have a long-term impact on the creation of a future work force?

PARALLEL SESSION 3: STRENGHTENING STEM COMMUNITY

LOCATION: ROOM EUROPE 3, LEVEL 4

In this session, policy-makers, key decision-makers from industry, Ministries of Education representatives, science museums, school authorities, and practitioners will share examples of innovative STEM school strategy around Europe and the mechanisms existing to support these developments. The session will contribute to the formulation of recommendations to scale-up STEM strategy at school level in European countries and make STEM teaching more attractive via new approaches.

Questions to be addressed in this session:

  • How can the community contribute to engaging students, teachers and other actors, in STEM related activities?
  • Which are the concrete steps needed to scale-up STEM strategy at school level with contribution from career counsellors to increase young Europeans' interest and skills in STEM?
  • What are examples of innovative practices established by school authorities that involve various actors, such as parents and career counsellors in STEM school strategy?
