In “STEM behind Sports”, two activities for TI-84 Plus and TI-Nspire™ CX graphing technology will put students at the starting line of two competitions:
- Power up! - The Physics of Finishing First
A TI-Nspire™ CX science activity, “Power Up!” guides students on an exploration of science and math that triathletes must master to succeed at their three-stage sport. In this activity, they will learn the definitions of energy, work and power, and relation between them, the concept of force in a sports scenario, and the conversion of energy.
- Field Goal for the Win
A TI-84 Plus lesson “Field Goal for the Win” is suitable for middle grades math through algebra and geometry. This activity encourages students to model, explore and explain the dynamics of kicking a football through the uprights in a gameful way.
Activities are supported with documentation available for download to provide a teacher with notes, worksheets and questions to lead classroom discussion and gauge student’s understanding of the topic. Activities are developed in a way that students receive immediate feedback, enabling them to self-assess and correct their work.
